🧼 DIY Tallow & Olive Oil Laundry Bar Soap
Batch size: 1 kg oils
Ingredients
700 g rendered tallow oil
300 g olive oil
131 g sodium hydroxide (NaOH/lye) — approximately 5% superfat
263 g distilled water
This gives you a simple, hard-working laundry bar with tallow + olive oil as the oils.
Method
Prepare safely: Wear gloves and goggles and work in a well-ventilated area.
Slowly add 131 g NaOH to 263 g distilled water—never water into lye. Stir until dissolved and allow it to cool.
Melt the 700 g tallow gently until completely liquid.
Add 300 g olive oil and mix well.
When the oils and lye solution are at suitable soapmaking temperatures, slowly add the lye solution to the oils.
Stick-blend in short bursts until you reach light trace.
Pour into a lined mold and cover.
Allow the soap to harden for 24–48 hours, then unmold and cut.
Cure the bars in a cool, dry, ventilated place for 4–6 weeks before using them for laundry.
