🍫
These adorable chocolate-dipped marshmallow Bugles are a sweet, crunchy treat made with Bugles corn snacks, marshmallow crème, and melted chocolate chips. They look like little ice cream cones and are perfect for Christmas parties, holiday dessert trays, or an easy no-bake treat!
The recipe below recreates the treats shown in your picture.
📝 Ingredients
Makes approximately 25–35 treats, depending on the size of the Bugles and how much filling you use.
For the treats
- 1 large bag (approximately 200 g / 7 oz) Bugles Original corn snacks
- 1 jar (approximately 198 g / 7 oz) Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme
- 1 bag (approximately 325 g / 11.5 oz) Hershey’s milk chocolate chips
- 1–2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, to thin the melted chocolate)
- White or holiday-colored sprinkles (optional)
Equipment
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Small spoon
- Piping bag or a sturdy zip-top bag
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper or wax paper
- Small spatula or fork
👩🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bugles
- Open the bag of Bugles and gently pour them into a bowl.
- Choose Bugles that are intact and have a good cone shape.
- Handle them carefully because they can break easily.
Tip: Choose the larger Bugles with openings wide enough to hold the marshmallow crème.
Step 2: Fill the Bugles with marshmallow crème
- Spoon the marshmallow crème into a piping bag or a zip-top bag.
- Push the crème toward one corner of the bag.
- Snip off a small piece of the corner to make a narrow opening.
- Hold a Bugle with its pointed end facing down and its wide opening facing up.
- Insert the piping tip into the wide opening.
- Gently squeeze the bag to fill the inside of the Bugle with marshmallow crème.
Continue until you’ve filled as many Bugles as you want.
Important tips:
- Don’t squeeze too hard, or the Bugles may crack.
- Avoid overfilling them, as the marshmallow crème can spill out when you dip them in chocolate.
- Leave a little room at the top so the filling doesn’t overflow.
Step 3: Melt the chocolate
- Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave for 30 seconds.
- Stir thoroughly.
- Continue heating in 15–20-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is smooth.
- If the chocolate is too thick for dipping, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening. Add a little more if needed.
Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can become thick and grainy.
Alternative method: Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of gently simmering water. Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water and keep water away from the chocolate.
Step 4: Dip the marshmallow-filled Bugles in chocolate
This is the step that creates the chocolate-coated appearance in your photo.
- Hold a filled Bugle by its pointed end.
- Dip the wide, marshmallow-filled end into the melted chocolate.
- Rotate it gently to coat the marshmallow and cover the rim of the Bugle.
- Lift it out and allow the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
- If necessary, use a spoon to help coat the sides evenly.
- Place the treat on a parchment-lined baking sheet, with the pointed end facing upward or at an angle that keeps the chocolate coating intact.
Repeat with the remaining filled Bugles.
For the look in your picture: Dip enough of the wide end to create a rounded chocolate shell around the marshmallow filling, leaving the golden, crunchy cone mostly uncovered.
Step 5: Add sprinkles (optional)
While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the coated ends with:
- White nonpareils
- Red and green holiday sprinkles
- Festive sugar decorations
You can also leave them plain for the classic chocolate-and-white-marshmallow look.
Step 6: Let the chocolate set
- Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for approximately 15–25 minutes, or until the chocolate coating has hardened.
- Once set, gently transfer the treats to a serving plate or airtight container.
For the neatest results, avoid moving the treats while the chocolate is still soft.
Step 7: Serve and enjoy!
Arrange the finished treats on a festive platter.
The result is a crunchy Bugles cone filled with sweet, fluffy marshmallow crème and finished with a rich milk-chocolate coating.
⭐ Tips for the best results
1. Use room-temperature marshmallow crème. It’s easier to pipe and less likely to tear the delicate Bugles.
2. Make sure the chocolate isn’t too hot. Let it cool slightly before dipping to reduce the chance of the Bugles breaking or the filling becoming too runny.
3. Use a narrow piping tip. This makes filling the Bugles easier and helps prevent them from cracking.
4. Chill before serving. A short time in the refrigerator helps the chocolate harden and keeps the treats neat.
5. Work in small batches. Fill and dip 5–10 Bugles at a time so you can handle them carefully without rushing.
6. Choose intact Bugles. Some will inevitably break, so having extras is helpful.
🧊 Storage instructions
- Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days for best quality.
- Room temperature: If your kitchen is cool, you can serve them at room temperature for a short period. The chocolate may soften in a warm room.
- Freezer: Freezing isn’t ideal because moisture and condensation can affect the Bugles’ crispness.
For the best crunch, prepare them as close to serving time as practical.
🎄 Variations to try
Christmas version
Use red, green, and white sprinkles, then arrange the treats on a festive platter.
White chocolate version
Replace the milk chocolate chips with white chocolate chips or white melting wafers.
Peanut butter version
Mix a small amount of smooth peanut butter into the melted chocolate for a peanut-butter-chocolate coating.
Dark chocolate version
Use dark chocolate chips for a less sweet finish.
Extra-crunchy version
Sprinkle finely chopped nuts over the chocolate before it sets. Be mindful of nut allergies.
