When you add up every size — the individual pieces, the small clusters, the medium groupings, and the one giant triangle — you land somewhere around 23 triangles total, depending on exactly how the puzzle-maker wants you to count overlapping shapes.
Why People Get Tricked
- They only count the obvious ones — the 10 painted triangles on the chocolates themselves — and stop there, missing the triangles formed by the arrangement.
- The glossy chocolate coating and painted brushstrokes create visual noise, making it hard to tell where one triangle’s edge ends and the arrangement pattern begins.
- Nested triangles are notoriously undercounted in any puzzle — it’s the same trick used in those “how many triangles in this star” images that go viral every few months. Our brains default to counting the smallest, most obvious units and forget to zoom out for the bigger shapes hiding in the structure.
The Real Answer
Honestly, without an official answer key from whoever made the graphic, the “correct” number varies by which triangles you’re allowed to count (does a triangle need visible edges, or just implied ones from the arrangement?).
