DIY toilet bowl cleaning
Step-by-step
- Flush the toilet to wet the inside of the bowl.
- Sprinkle ½ cup baking soda evenly around the inside of the bowl.
- Slowly pour ½ cup white vinegar over the baking soda. Let it fizz for 10–15 minutes.
- Add 1 tablespoon dish soap around the bowl.
- Scrub the entire bowl thoroughly with a toilet brush, paying extra attention under the rim and any stained areas.
- If you’d like a fresh scent, squeeze the juice of ½–1 lemon around the bowl and scrub again (optional).
- Let everything sit for another 5 minutes.
- Flush the toilet to rinse everything away.
Note: Baking soda and vinegar create a satisfying fizz, but once the reaction is over, they mostly neutralize each other. The fizz can help loosen light dirt, while the scrubbing does most of the cleaning. For tough limescale or hard-water stains, a dedicated toilet descaler or an acidic cleaner is usually more effective.
