How many points would you score? ๐ค
We all have those appliances we use every single day, the ones we bought because they seemed absolutely essential, and the ones that sounded like a great idea at the time but now spend most of their lives hiding in a cabinet.
This fun challenge asks a simple question:
Give yourself one point for every appliance on the list that you DON’T have in your home.
There are 12 appliances in the picture, so your score can range from 0 to 12.
And be honestโdon’t count something just because you used to have one! ๐
๐ The Appliance Challenge
1. Microwave
Do you have one?
A microwave can be incredibly convenient for reheating leftovers, defrosting appropriate foods, melting ingredients, and preparing quick meals.
Don’t have one? โ 1 point!
2. Toaster
The classic countertop appliance.
If you regularly eat toast, bagels, English muffins, or similar foods, a toaster can earn its place on the counter. But if you’re perfectly happy using a pan or oven, you might not miss it at all.
No toaster? โ 1 point!
3. Iron
This one may depend entirely on your lifestyle.
Some people iron everything. Others haven’t touched an iron in years! If you mostly choose wrinkle-resistant clothing or use other methods to remove wrinkles, an iron may barely be missed.
No iron? โ 1 point!
4. Air Fryer
The appliance that seems to have taken over kitchens everywhere!
Air fryers can be useful for crisping foods, roasting vegetables, reheating leftovers, and making quick meals. They can also take up a surprising amount of counter or cupboard space.
No air fryer? โ 1 point!
5. Robot Vacuum
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little machine wandering around the house doing the vacuuming for you?
Robot vacuums are designed to automate routine floor cleaning, although they still aren’t completely hands-off.
No robot vacuum? โ 1 point!
6. Dehumidifier
A dehumidifier can be useful in damp areas because it removes moisture from indoor air.
But not every home needs one, and some people may never have considered buying one.
No dehumidifier? โ 1 point!
7. Dryer
For some households, a clothes dryer is indispensable.
For others, laundry goes straight onto a clothesline, drying rack, balcony, or outdoor line.
No dryer? โ 1 point!
8. Dishwasher
This might be the appliance that divides everyone!
Some people say a dishwasher is the greatest invention ever. Others would rather wash dishes by hand than give up valuable kitchen space to one.
No dishwasher? โ 1 point!
9. Kettle
Tea drinkers may consider this one absolutely essential! โ
An electric kettle is designed specifically for heating water quickly and conveniently.
But if you heat water on the stovetop or simply don’t drink many hot beverages, you may not need one.
No kettle? โ 1 point!
10. Rice Cooker
Rice cookers are wonderfully convenient for people who make rice regularly. Many models can also handle other grains or steaming tasks.
But if rice isn’t a regular part of your meals, this may be one more appliance taking up cabinet space.
No rice cooker? โ 1 point!
11. Food Processor
A food processor can make chopping, shredding, slicing, mixing, and other preparation jobs much faster.
But it can also be a bulky appliance. Some people prefer a knife, box grater, blender, or smaller chopper instead.
No food processor? โ 1 point!
12. Bread Maker
Fresh homemade bread sounds wonderfulโbut do you actually need a machine to make it?
Bread makers can knead, proof, and bake bread with minimal hands-on work. For frequent bread bakers, that’s a pretty tempting convenience.
For everyone else, it might be another appliance that spends most of its time collecting dust.
No bread maker? โ 1 point!
๐งฎ What’s Your Score?
Now count your points!
0โ2 points: The Appliance Collector! ๐
You have almost everything on the list. Your kitchen and home are well equipped!
3โ5 points: Nicely Equipped! ๐
You have plenty of helpful appliances without necessarily owning everything.
6โ8 points: Keeping It Simple! ๐
You don’t need every gadget to run a household. You probably know exactly which appliances are worth the space.
9โ10 points: Minimalist Mode! ๐ฟ
You’ve managed to live without most of these appliancesโand you’re doing just fine!
11โ12 points: Old-School Champion! ๐
You have almost none of them. Give yourself a round of applause!
๐ค Which Appliance Would You NEVER Give Up?
That’s the more interesting question.
Maybe your microwave is used every day. Maybe your dishwasher saves you from a mountain of dishes every night. Maybe your air fryer has practically replaced your oven for smaller meals.
Or perhaps you don’t own many appliances at all because you prefer simple tools and traditional methods.
There really isn’t one perfect list of appliances for every household. What makes sense depends on your cooking habits, laundry routine, available space, budget, and how much convenience you want. Guides to kitchen appliances similarly emphasize choosing appliances according to the work they actually need to do in your home rather than simply buying everything available. (Lowe’s)
And sometimes not owning something is just as useful as owning itโespecially when it means less clutter, fewer things to clean, and more room in your cabinets.
