Step 1: Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2: Mix the Dough
Add the melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
Step 3: Knead
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 6 minutes.
Step 4: First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 5: Shape the Rolls
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
Step 6: Second Rise
Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan or on a lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
Step 7: Add the Egg Wash
Whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the tops of the rolls and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Step 8: Bake
Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Step 9: Finish
Brush the warm rolls with melted butter for an extra-soft crust.

- Avoid adding too much flour; the dough should be soft and slightly tacky.
