1. Inflate the Balloon

2. Decide How High You Want the Bowl

Imagine a line around the balloon where you want the top edge of your bowl to be.
Don’t cover the entire balloon—you need an uncovered section so that once the glue has dried, you can remove the balloon and have an open bowl.
3. Apply the First Layer of Mod Podge
Using a foam brush, spread a generous but even layer of Mod Podge over a small section of the balloon.
Work in manageable areas rather than covering the entire balloon at once.
4. Add Your Leaves 🍁
Place a faux leaf onto the wet Mod Podge and gently brush more Mod Podge over the top.
Continue adding leaves, slightly overlapping each one.
Alternate your colors and directions as you go. The overlapping leaves are what give the finished bowl its beautiful, full appearance.
Important: Make sure the leaves overlap generously. You don’t want large gaps between them.
5. Build Up Several Layers
Continue working around the balloon until you’ve covered the bowl-shaped area.
For a stronger bowl, add 2–3 layers of leaves, brushing Mod Podge between the layers and over the final layer.
Pay special attention to the bottom and sides, where the bowl will need the most strength.
6. Let It Dry Completely
This is the hardest part—leave it alone! 😄
Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely according to the product instructions. Depending on how many layers you’ve applied and the humidity in your room, this can take several hours or longer.
The leaves should feel firm and bonded together before you move on.
7. Carefully Remove the Balloon
Once everything is completely dry, carefully pop or deflate the balloon.
As the balloon pulls away, the hardened leaf shell should remain in the shape of a bowl.
If a section is still soft or flexible, don’t force it. Allow it more time to dry before removing the balloon.
8. Finish the Bowl
Inspect the edges and carefully trim away any loose pieces with scissors.
If you’d like additional protection, you can apply a light coat of a suitable clear acrylic sealer after the Mod Podge has fully cured.
Let the finished bowl dry completely before decorating it.
